Concrete Answers for Your Project

Concrete Answers for Your Project - National Site Materials

Are you planning a project that requires concrete? We know there is a lot of planning and preparation that goes into every project. To save you a little time, here are answers to our two most frequently asked questions about ordering concrete mix.

How Much Concrete Do I Need?

Concrete mix is sold by volume in cubic yards, not weight. Before placing your order, calculate the volume you need. We recommended adding an extra 5% to 10% to the volume you plan to use. This extra concrete can offset any waste or spillage.

Extra concrete will also allow for any uneven subgrade that may not have been factored into your measurements or for any form bowing that may occur. It is also important to remember that shrinkage occurs as the concrete dries and cures. The estimated change in volume is generally around 1% to 2% less than its original volume.

Small Bags Save Big Time

Working on a big project that needs a little concrete? No need to make a separate purchase order. National Site Materials offers bagged concrete. Simply add a 10 pound bag to your site materials order.

What Type of Concrete Should I Order?

The type of concrete mix you need will depend on the job or project you are using it for. A 2,500 psi may be enough for walls while pavement will need 4,000 to 5,00 psi. Footing and slabs on grade typically use 3,500 to 4,000 psi concrete mix. Suspended slabs may be between 3,500 to 5,000 psi.

Whatever project you are working on, be sure to check the specifications required to ensure all safety requirements and recommendations are met. Once you determine what type of concrete you need, simply submit your concrete mix order online.
